Hearing assessments
Hearing tests in Albany and Denmark

Start with a free hearing checkup
For those unsure about needing hearing aids, we offer a free, no-obligation hearing checkup to evaluate your hearing and discuss your options. It includes a hearing test, and it is perfect for a casual chat about your hearing before taking the dive. In-clinic, or as a tele-appointment.
If you suspect a hearing loss and feel ready to talk about hearing aid options, we provide our standard hearing assessment. When preparing for one, we suggest bringing family members along. Family often notice changes in hearing more than we do ourselves, and involving them gives valuable insight into how your hearing needs fit with your family dynamics.
Alternatively, if you require a hearing assessment for employment purposes, such as clearance to work on a mine site, we can help. We also provide hearing assessments and reports for driving licence purposes.

The audiological tests we use
A full assessment is a battery of tests rather than a single one. Together they tell us not just how much you hear, but how well you understand what you hear, and whether anything mechanical is getting in the way.
Pure tone audiometry
Pure tone audiometry (PTA) tests pure tones at specific frequencies. During the test, tones are played through earphones, inserts or bone conduction devices to measure the softest sounds detectable in decibels.
Speech testing
Speech testing evaluates your speech comprehension ability, measuring the minimum threshold for speech discrimination. Our assessments include testing in quiet and noisy environments, offering insight into everyday speech processing. It is arguably the most practical part of the audiology test battery.
Tympanometry
Tympanometry is a tool for assessing middle ear function. It measures eardrum movement, revealing how effectively sound is transmitted, and provides insight into Eustachian tube function. This test is crucial for distinguishing the effects of fluid on hearing.
Video endoscopy
Video endoscopy uses a video imaging device to display the ear canal and eardrum on a computer screen. We use a superior medical endoscope camera with a bendable tip, allowing us to detect even the finest abnormalities.
